WESTPORT — Interim Superintendent Thomas F. Aubin reports that the Westport Community Schools will remain open despite rising COVID-19 cases in the Town of Westport. On Thursday, Nov. 12, the Town of Westport posted a message on its homepage stating that effective Monday, Nov. 16, all Town buildings will be closed to the public except by appointment only. This is due to positive COVID-19 cases increasing in town over the past several weeks. This order does not include the Westport Community Schools. Infection rates within the school district remain low, and schools will remain open under the district’s current learning

WESTPORT — Interim Superintendent Thomas F. Aubin is pleased to announce that several Westport High School students are among students statewide to receive a John and Abigail Adams Scholarship this year. This scholarship is available to students whose MCAS performance puts them in the top 25% of their district. To be eligible, students must either score Advanced on the English, Math and Science exams, or Advanced on one exam and High Proficient on the other two. Assistant Superintendent and Junior Senior High School Principal Thomas Aubin Named Interim Superintendent WESTPORT — The Westport School Committee reports that Superintendent Dr. Gary Reese, who has been on a leave of absence since Sept. 18, 2020, will be resigning effective Nov. 30. Acting Superintendent Thomas F. Aubin will serve as the Interim Superintendent going forward. Mr. Aubin has been at the forefront of implementing the district’s COVID-19 re-entry plan since Dr. Reese’s leave of absence. The Westport Community Schools would like to thank the Town of Westport for their support in adding more than a half million dollars to the district’s proposed annual budget. At its Tuesday, Sept. 22 meeting, the Westport Finance Committee approved adding an additional $505,207 to the school line-item in the Town’s proposed operating budget. The budget will be voted on at the Special Town Meeting scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3. Due to COVID 19 distancing concerns, voting at Precinct E, the  Westport Junior/Senior High School, will take place in the school gymnasium not the auditorium stage for the November 3rd Election. This change only applies to  those voters who are assigned to Precinct E as their regular polling place.  The school gymnasium is most accessible by using the front south doorway.  The Polls will be open 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.  Thank you!

WESTPORT — Principal Cheryl M. Greeson is pleased to report that in-person classes successfully resumed this week at the Alice A. Macomber Primary School. As part of the district’s return-to-school plan, pre-K/pre-school, kindergarten and first grade students at the Macomber School began fully in-person classes on Wednesday, Sept.16. Due to smaller classroom sizes and larger enrollment numbers, second grade students at the school are following a hybrid model where students are put into two groups (Cohort A and B) and will be in school two days a week and remote three days a week. Good Afternoon, Westport Learning Community: In anticipation of the first day of the 2020-2021 school year, a learning platform orientation will be held on September 15, from 6:00 – 7:15. The district is implementing a number of protocols to increase the cleaning/sanitization of our buildings. The following procedures will take place in our school buildings in the fall.
